News – Top 4 Changes in 2011

Dr. David Grier, Director of MUSC Sports Medicine and an orthopaedic surgeon, wrote an article for the new year entitled “Top Four Changes I’d Like To See in 2011” for the Charleston, SC Post and Courier.

Wish #2 is what caught my attention – “Put Athletic Trainers At Every School”.  His reasoning?  He says:

But injuries occur in sports other than football, and they occur in practices during the week as well. I have far too many high school athletes come in to my office weeks or even months after an injury who tell me that there was no one at the school who could evaluate the injury and tell them whether or not they should play.”

As I wrote in today’s blog, access is the most important service that an athletic trainer provides.
